Peer to Peer Compared to Abacast

The Abacast Distributed Streaming Network is a combination of the best features of peer-to-peer delivery together with the best features of central server or unicast delivery. We have taken the security, high quality, and control of unicast technology and combined it with the extreme efficiency of peer-to-peer delivery. The result is a very secure, high quality, stable, quickly adaptable network that uses up to 98% less bandwidth. This makes it better than unicast and better than pure peer-to-peer. It also creates proven higher quality connections.

Similarities of Abacast and P2P streaming technologies

Efficient Distribution : The Abacast Hybrid Technology utilizes the unused bandwidth creating a more efficient streaming solution.
Adaptability: The ability to expand and contract depending upon user numbers.

Important Differences Between Abacast and P2P streaming technologies

Standard P2P : In the standard P2P network system it is difficult to maintain quality amongst its users.
Security: Unlike Abacast, users can have problems with maintaining security in P2P networks.
Control: P2P networks have difficulty maintaining control. Abacast's hybrid technology allows for users to have complete control found in unicast streaming.

Further, in the Abacast Distributed Streaming Network the "peers" are simply distributing (or relaying) the real-time stream based on direction from the Abacast Server. The "peers" do not know anything about each other, nor do they store any information or files for each other. The Abacast clients can only distribute the stream when the user is actively listening to or viewing the streaming media. If the client disconnects, all distributing is stopped and any downstream clients are immediately redirected to the server or other distributing clients without interruption or skipping.
